Kildare Rescue Tails: Volunteers wanted at dog shelter

Volunteers work as part of a team, by the shelter's rules and under the supervision of a core volunteer on duty.

The KWWSPCA is currently seeking new volunteers to look after our rescue dogs at the KWWSPCA Animal Shelter near Athgarvan.

We prefer volunteers to be over 21 years old but due to insurance reasons all volunteers must be over 18 years of age.

The work is entirely voluntary, nobody in the KWWSPCA is paid for what they do. The reward comes through the work and the dogs.

We require hard-working, dependable volunteers who will not let us down, regardless of weather, because our dogs need care every day whether it’s raining, snowing, cold or hot.

The work is not just walking and cuddling cute dogs, there’s also poop scooping, feeding and cleaning.

This work is not for the faint-hearted! You need to be fit and strong, have no physical impairments such as back or shoulder issues, you need to be well used to dogs and have no fear or nervousness around any dogs, whether they are big, small or restricted breeds as we have dogs of every size and breed coming into the shelter.

Our volunteers must be able to drive themselves to our shelter as it is not serviced by public transport.

At this particular time, we are only looking for people who are available to work one day (or more) every week on a regular shift from either 7.30am to 1pm or from 1pm to 6pm.

Our volunteers work as part of a team, by the shelter's rules and under the supervision of a core volunteer on duty.

We need very dependable volunteers, as otherwise we could not properly function and the dogs would end up suffering by being deprived of their walks and basic care.

The reward comes in the shape of seeing a dog improve dramatically from the time it comes to us, to the time it leaves our shelter with its new family.

You will feel rewarded in the knowledge that you were part of the team that made this happen. Do you think you can make this commitment?

If so, please go to our website www.kwwspca.ie and complete a volunteer application form, which can be found in the ‘Get Involved’ section.

The KWWSPCA is a registered charity no. CHY 6280 and can be contacted at kwwspca@gmail.com. All our details can be found at www.kwwspca.ie.
