Rescue Tails: Tony would make an excellent companion

Rescue Tails: Tony would make an excellent companion

Tony would like a nice quiet home

WE featured our Collie, Tony, here last March but unfortunately we are still trying to find a home for him.

Tony is about 5 years old and is a quiet soul but a country home is essential for him. He reacts badly to urban settings and is fearful of traffic, crowds and approaching dogs. He is not too interested in play although he will engage when there’s a small rubber ball involved. Tony seems content just to have his basic needs met. He was initially a little wary of some (but not all) of our male volunteers, which usually indicates a past bad experience, but for the most part seems to have overcome this now.

He is quite happy to head off on his walks (on the lead) with our volunteers but gets anxious when returning to the busy section of our shelter as  other dogs are out and making noise. He has received some training at the shelter and we are working on helping Tony overcome his fears.

Life in busy kennels is not suiting Tony so he is currently residing in our kitchen and we find him to be very happy and content there. He is really enjoying all the company of our volunteers coming in and out and feeding him biscuits!

An enclosed garden will be sufficient for his exercise needs so Tony will not require lots of walking. We feel he will make an excellent companion dog and we would like Tony to find a quiet, rural home where he possibly would be the only dog in the home, although a successful meet and greet with a resident dog is also an option.
