Emergency response in Athy following report of person in river

Emergency services in Athy are currently responding to a report that an individual entered the River Barrow on Sunday morning.

A large garda presence is currently in the town along with Kildare fire service and Civil Defence. A cordon has also been put in place in the vicinity of the Barrow Line.
The garda helicopter was also seen above the town.

At lunchtime, garda spokesperson said a search was underway following reports an individual entered the water shortly at 11am on Sunday.
Inquiries are currently ongoing.
