EIGHTEEN new social houses have been completed in Athgarvan, Kildare County Council announced this week, with the first tenant receiving their keys already.

The development at Blackrath Ridge, Athgarvan, has delivered the residential units under the Rebuilding Ireland Action Plan.

The development consists of three one-bedroom houses, two two-bedroom houses and thirteen 3-bedroom houses, all of which have an ‘A’ BER rating and finished to a high standard.

Additionally, three of the units are universally designed, accessible and age friendly, single-storey houses.

Other works in the area included the construction of a new granite-capped limestone effect wall, to separate the existing Mountain View estate from the main road, and the installation of new surface water drainage connecting to a Nature Based attenuation system, to serve both Blackrath Ridge and Mountain View.

Cathaoirleach of Kildare County Council, cllr Kevin Duffy said the houses were a "significant milestone for our community".

“This project not only provides high-quality homes but also demonstrates our commitment to sustainable development and improving the quality of life for our residents.”

”This project is a testament to our commitment to providing high-quality, accessible, and age-friendly homes for the community, and we are proud to see the positive impact it will have on the lives of the new tenants and the broader community,” said the council's director of services for housing Annette Aspell.

Colm O’Sullivan of Deaton Lysaght Architects (DLA) said: “This project underscores DLA's dedication to designing sustainable and high-quality homes, evidenced by the ‘A’ Building Energy Rating for each dwelling. Our design approach for Mountain View prioritized the creation of attractive and resident-friendly spaces.”
