Kildare heritage sites receive over €250k in funding

Kildare heritage sites received over 250,000 in funding for safeguarding and enhancement works.
The allocation of €276,389 under the Community Monuments Fund will be divvied up between Moone Abbey Tower, Laraghbryan Church, Donadea Castle, the Kildare Round Tower.
Minister Martin Heydon said the funding supports conservation, maintenance, protection, and promotion of these cherished local monuments Minister Heydon said: “Kildare’s allocation includes €120,000 for renovation works for Moone Abbey Tower, €100,000 for Laraghbryan Church, €29,999.70 for Donadea Castle and €26,390 for Kildare Round Tower in the grounds of St Brigid's Cathedral.”
He added: “This investment both preserves our historical sites while also giving a boost to our local economy through the creation of thousands of hours of employment opportunities for specialist craftspeople and traditional skills practitioners.
“Since its establishment in 2020, the Community Monuments Fund has become a pivotal part of our national strategy to enhance the resilience of our archaeological sites against the impacts of climate change and to improve their accessibility. This funding enables essential repairs and capital works that are crucial for the conservation of these important Kildare monuments.
