Kildare students land scholarships at DCU awards
Patrick Fagan from Newbridge and Derry Lenehan from Naas were presented with scholarship awards at Dublin City University.
TWO Kildare students were presented with scholarship awards by Dublin City University at a ceremony to celebrate memorial and endowed scholarships recently.
Derry Lenehan, a former student of CBS Naas, studied Journalism at DCU, and was awarded The Veronica Guerin Memorial Scholarship.
Created in memory of the murdered investigative journalist, Veronica Guerin, the scholarship gives two DCU journalism students the opportunity to complete work experience placements with the Washington Bureau of Arizona State University’s Cronkite School of Journalism.
Patrick Fagan, a former student of St Conleth's Community College, Newbridge and an Actuarial and Financial Mathematic student in DCU was awarded The Endowed Deloitte Access Scholarship,and will be offered a position with that accountancy firm.
In total, 54 students received awards named in honour of individuals and organisations who have played a leading role in the life of Dublin City University and in wider Irish society.
The Deloitte Access Scholarship Fund was established to support greater access to education.
Speaking at the event, Deirdre Hannigan, Chair of DCU Educational Trust, commented: “This event is an opportunity to look back on the remarkable lives of those we remember through our memorial scholarships and acknowledge the impact we can achieve when we come together. By creating opportunities for impactful doctoral research and supporting scholarships that enable talented students to overcome barriers, our supporters are enabling young people to reach their potential and make a real impact on society.”
