THE FIRST ever golf ball drop event took place in Naas in aid of McAuley Place – the charity providing independent living to older people living in Naas.

Chairperson of McAuley Place, Patricia Darling, was delighted with the success of the event.
The event was arranged for an ongoing campaign to build more housing for older people called ‘Beauford Project’.

The event raised funds for a much-needed expansion of McAuley Place where currently there are 53 social and private apartments for the elderly with a long waiting list.
Together with Kildare County Council and the support of the wider community this facility is striving to grow.

The adjacent Beaufort site has been acquired which, when completed, will provide an additional 43 units with a vibrant new space for older residents.
“It was absolutely excellent,” she said. “It was a good turnout – just a huge success,” said Patricia.

Three lucky winners went home with cash prizes of €5000, €1500, and €1000.
The event was not only a chance to win big, it was also a great family day.

There was presence from the Kildare Fire Service, the Naas Community Gardaí. For the children there was a magician, a DJ, face painting, dressed up characters, and a special ball drop event.

Just like the adult version, there were three winners – all winning vouchers for Smyths Toys Superstores.

Patricia told Kildare Nationalist that she believes the event has raised enough money for the Beauford Project, but will only know for definite in the coming weeks.
