The site at Dún Ailinne

HISTORY enthusiasts and curious locals alike are invited to the annual Dún Ailinne Open Day, taking place this Sunday, July 6, at Knockaulin, Kilcullen.

The hill top fort is home to amazing discoveries indicating occupation in the bronze age and as a pre-Christian ceremonial site.

It is also a hugely important cultural site with links to Irish mythology with the belief that the site was one of the great royal sites of early Gaelic Ireland, and believed to be where the Kings of Leinster were inaugurated.

The event runs from 1pm to 4pm and promises a fascinating glimpse into one of Ireland’s ancient Royal Sites.

The open day offers a rare chance for visitors to explore the historic site and receive updates on the latest archaeological discoveries.

Admission is €5 for all who wish to attend.
