Fundraiser in memory of beloved Kilcullen woman raises €17k

The late Corina Staunton
Some €17,000 has been raised for cancer research at a weekend of events to commemorate a Kilcullen woman who died over a year ago. Family and friends of the late Corina Staunton organised the second 'Corina's Weekend' which included a golf classic, a pub night of fun, and a 5K walk in the countryside around the small town where she had lived for 20 years.
Similarly to the first such event organised last year, the funds raised go once again to the Cancer Care Research Trust. A Golf Classic at the Rathsallagh Golf & Country Club on Friday 19 July had 35 teams taking part. And an evening later in O'Connell's Bar in Kilcullen was also very well supported, with a raffle for a wide range of donated prizes, including 65-inch TV, tablets, laptops, a smart watch, hampers and vouchers.

On the Sunday morning, despite early showers, a group of stalwarts headed off enthusiastically on the 5K walk. The sky cleared pretty quickly as they continued along a route that took them from Kilcullen Community Centre to the Old Carlow Road and around by Yellow Bog, then back by McGarry's Lane with a stop off at St Brigid's Cemetery to pay their respects to Corina, who died in March 2023.
