Investing in Young People and the Future of Athy
People First Credit Union brought families, volunteers and local groups together in Athy recently for a vibrant Easter Family Fun Day that celebrated not only the season but also the importance of investing in young people and supporting the future of the local community.
Held at the Athy office on Thursday, the event welcomed a large turnout of families who enjoyed an afternoon filled with face painting, balloon art, Easter eggs, goodie bags and a warm, welcoming atmosphere for all ages.
A central part of the day was the recognition of local community groups and volunteers, with a number of organisations invited to the event to receive funding support for their ongoing work in the area.
The groups included
• Park People
• Arles Art Group
• Aontas Ógra
• Athy Tennis Club
• Athy AFC
• Ballyroe Residents Association
• Athy Film Club
• Athy Women’s Shed
• Athy Women’s Coffee Group
• Athy Scooch Group
• Athy Town Promoters
• St Laurence’s LGFA
• Irish Wheelchair Association.
These groups represent the heart of the community in Athy, contributing to everything from sport and the arts to inclusion, wellbeing and local development.
The event also focused on encouraging positive financial habits among younger members. Children aged 0–15 who open a Young Savers account before 17th April will receive €10 lodged directly into their account, helping to give them a strong start on their savings journey.
Speaking following the event, Seán Dunne, CEO at People First Credit Union, said:
“This event is about more than just a fun day out. It’s about recognising the incredible work of our local volunteers and groups, while also encouraging young people to start building positive financial habits early. By investing in both, we are investing in the future of Athy.” The Easter Family Fun Day highlighted the credit union’s ongoing commitment to supporting community life while creating opportunities for young people and families to engage, learn and thrive.
