ONE half of the couple who have been blaming each other for €5,000 worth of alleged damage done to the Athy Boat Tours barge appeared in court this week (10 September), although there was no sign of her partner in piracy.
Sylvia Percival (41) of Lakeside Crescent, Newbridge made her appearance in Athy District Court, already charged with trespass and criminal damage to the vessel at Barrow Quay - literally behind the courthouse – on 10 November.
Her co-defendant, 44-year-old Thomas Lyng, Monte, Crettyard, Co Kilkenny, though listed for an appearance was not called.
At their previous appearance in February it was revealed there were broken windows on the barge, and a pot of paint had been thrown around the interior, resulting in an estimated €5,000 worth of damage.
“Both admitted being on the boat, but both blamed each other for the damage,” said the sergeant, so the judge bailed her until 14 January for mention.
