The charging points in question

Electric vehicle (EV) charging points in a car park in Athy are expected to be back up and running before the year’s end.

The issue was raised at September’s meeting of Athy Municipal District – cllr Aoife Breslin asked Kildare’s local authority to outline the reasons why the charge points in Meeting Lane car park have been out of commission for over three months and when they will be back in operation.

A spokesperson subsequently told the Kildare Nationalist that the EV charging points were installed at Meeting Lane as a pilot project by Kildare Co Council.

“These chargers were turned off by Kildare Co Council, as their future management is the subject of a larger tender process,” they said. “They are expected to be operational before the end of the year.

“As they will be operated by a commercial entity, there will be a charge for their use.”
