Courtney makes pairs final at Darts World Cup
Jack Courtney and Tipperary's Aidan O'Hara have made it to the final of the Pairs event at the WDF World Cup in South Korea
Kilcullen teenager Jack Courtney is preparing to play in a darts World Cup final on Friday morning after advancing to the decider of the WDF Youth Pairs tournament in South Korea.
Courtney (16), who throws for the Carlow club, will partner Tipperary's Aidan O'Hara (17) as they compete for the gold medal against Turkey's Kerem Calikiran and Toprak Aras.
Republic Of Ireland Youth manager Paddy Cullen, who is also from Carlow, has expressed his pride at the achievements of his two darts proteges.
The pair were in sensational form in Seoul in South Korea as they advanced to Friday's final with the minimum of fuss.
Cullen said the pair were in confident mood, which he said augurs well for the final.
"It's a great achievement for the two boys," Carlow man Cullen said.
"They played really well all day and never even looked in trouble in any of their games.
"Their confidence is good too and hopefully that will stand to them in the final."
Courtney and O'Hara began their campaign by topping Group A without even losing a leg.
They recorded three straight 3-0 wins over pairs from Egypt, Finland and Japan to advance to the knockout stages in fine form.
The Irish pair then kept that form up as they defeated Australia's Tristan Bognar and Andrew Nielsen 4-1 in the quarter finals.
That set up a semi-final clash with Deacon Swanepoel and Cheswin van Rooyen of South Africa.
Despite losing the first leg in that game, Courtney and O'Hara came roaring back to win the next four legs in succession to romp into the World Cup final.
They will return for that final at around 10am Irish time on Friday morning.
