Fund to bring soldier Robert Deegan's body back

Robert Deegan who was killed while fighting in Ukraine
Showing the strength of affection across Kildare for the Deegan family following the tragic loss of their son Robert in Ukraine last Thursday (20 September), a GoFundMe page set up by a former colleague has raised more than double its target, and is now approaching €30,000.
Rossa O’Donnell set up the page at around 9pm on Wednesday evening (25 September), and by lunchtime on Monday (30 September) it stood at €28,291 from 448 donations – with the largest single donation being €5,000.
“I am part of a community who knows the Deegan family through shared time in the Irish Defence Forces as well as being from the Curragh Camp,” said Rossa.
“On behalf of the Deegan family, and with their permission, we are raising funds for the repatriation costs of their son Robert,” he said. “Robert was killed tragically in battle while fighting for Ukraine as part of the ongoing war.
“Any funds raised will be used to help return Robert to his family. Excess funds will be donated to a charity of the family’s choosing.”
