Funding of €897,000 has been allocated to 23 groups across Kildare for the delivery of climate action projects as part of the response to climate change.

The approved projects in Kildare include a variety of innovative approaches to the climate challenge in areas such as energy, waste, biodiversity and active travel.

They include the installation of 600 PV solar panels on community buildings — enough to recharge 10,000 smartphones a month.

In addition to the climate benefits there will also be significant cost savings over time, a real help when energy costs are so significant.

Other projects include fitting wall and attic insulation and retrofitting energy efficient lighting with additional works such as installing nestboxes for swifts, erecting polytunnels, installing EV chargers, and providing water refill stations demonstrating care for the environment in different ways.

The successful applicants in Kildare come from a wide variety of community organisations including housing associations.
