Kildare’s waste paint initiative a huge success

Recycled paint outside Aras Cill Dara.
AN astonishing 37.3 tonnes of waste paint was collected in five hours on the last Saturday in September by Kildare County Council.
This saw a little over 870 cars turn up to the paint drop amnesty at Aras Cill Dara between 9am and 2pm, which equates to a car every 21 seconds.
In partnership with the Regional Waste Enforcement Office and the Department of Environment, Climate and Communications, the Council held a free domestic waste paint recycling event on 28 September, and initiative that had only been announced less than a fortnight earlier.
The event aimed to assist and encourage households in recycling and to reduce dumping across County Kildare, will have made a lot of room in Kildare sheds.
Funding for the event, which was held in collaboration with Enva, was awarded under the Anti-Dumping Initiative from the Department.
