U15 LEAGUE OF IRELAND

KLUB KILDARE 1

SLIGO ROVERS 4

Klub Kildare surrendered the three points in this game played in beautiful conditions in FBD Hotels and Resorts Park on Saturday.

With the transfer window now open, manager Eoin Burke took the opportunity of bringing in a few new players and giving them an opportunity to play League of Ireland football.

The game started slowly with players trying to adjust to the hot day. It took thirty-five minutes before the first piece of serious pay took place and it was Under 14 player Calvin Kelly who shot towards goal only for a Sligo defender to get his foot to it and divert it for a corner.

The corner taken by Calvin saw Matt Cox rise highest, but the ball went wide.

At this stage Klub Kildare were on top and it looked only a matter of time for them to score and so it was when Rory Mc Carrick played a great ball to Zac Zhang – he pulled it back to the penalty spot and Calvin Kelly, timing it perfectly, gave the keeper no chance with a well hit shot.

Sligo were grateful to their keeper when in the 40th minute Sam O Neill making his debut was very unlucky when he toe poked the ball only to Marc Percy in the Sligo goal make a brilliant reactionary save.

With the first half coming to an end the Klub Kildare defence fell asleep and allowed Sligo to score bringing the halftime score to 1-1 The second half saw a different Sligo team and the controlled the game playing the ball around and goals in the 58th and 62nd minutes gave them complete control.

Cathal McCarthy paid a flying visit to Klub Kildare on Saturday before he returns to training in Hull City on Monday.

There has been a lot of speculation concerning Cathal in the last week with a bid of a rumoured seven figure sum from Nottingham Forest supposedly rejected by his club.

“That’s all being handled by my agent,” said Cathal on Saturday.

Cathal is just looking to return to training and he is hoping to go out on loan in order to get first team football. Cathal is happy in Hull and looking forward to the new season, once again he thanked us for all the work we have done down in Kilashee and the help that he received from the club during the formative years of his career. We hope that in the future we’ll see more players come through Klub Kildare and reach the heights that Cathal has.
