Kildare comic presents new show

‘Paddystinian’ explores Ireland’s fierce solidarity with Palestine — and the history that makes it feel familiar

“PLEASE welcome your next favourite comedian” is how Warren Martin was recently introduced at a prominent Dublin comedy club — and now he brings his second solo show to the capital's Smock Alley Theatre on Friday and Saturday, 27-28 February at 8.15pm.

Martin is a co-founder of Kildare’s longest-running comedy club, Mór Laughs, based at O’Neill’s Bar in Maynooth.

A familiar face on stages across Ireland and Britain, Martin has headlined comedy clubs throughout the island and beyond. His debut solo show ‘Proud Father, Exhausted Dad’ premiered at the Scene and Heard Festival of New Work before enjoying a run at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and an upcoming appearance at Leicester Comedy Festival.

Now he returns to Scene and Heard to debut his new work ‘Paddystinian’ a show that blends sharp humour with history and identity, exactly a year after his first solo show in the Smock Alley Theatre.

‘Paddystinian’ explores Ireland’s fierce solidarity with Palestine — and the history that makes it feel familiar, as both nations were moulded by the same colonial power at the same time in history.

Through sharp humour and satire, Warren Martin examines the myths we inherit and the patterns we recognise.

It’s provocative, funny, and asks what it really means when we say, “we’ve seen this before.”

Mór Laughs has hosted some of the biggest names in Irish comedy, including stars of Father Ted, and Martin regularly performs at leading Dublin venues including The Craic Den, Comedy Crunch, Stitches and Hysteria, and has appeared at festivals such as Sligo Comedy Festival and the Edinburgh Fringe.

Tickets are available from the Smock Alley website at €14 each.
